Medical Massage
Medical Massage Assessment Skills and Techniques was developed by Sherri McCabe, LMT in 1995. Sherri has 15 years experience as a massage therapist, she has given over 20,000 medical massages. She developed this form of massage in the early years of her practice when working as a massage therapist on staff at a chiropractic office. She has subsequently worked closely with other chiropractors, medical doctors, physical therapists, natural paths and nutritional counselors in developing this technique.
Medical Massage Assessment Skills and Techniques is a blend of specific deep tissue massage techniques that isolate the muscles that trigger improper balance, causing pain and discomfort, weakness, decreased range of motion and the inability to function at peak performance. The use of accurate muscle testing for the immediate recognition of dysfunctional muscles and the effective use of the golgi tendon apparatus, spindle cell mechanism, resistive stretching, manipulation of the energy system and specific soft tissue/neuromuscular therapy techniques to assist in restoring balance to the body. Sherri and her experienced instructors will individually work with each student to help them build a foundational understanding of these techniques, enhancing the level of confidence when performing this type of medical massage.
There are many times when medical providers specifically prescribe medical massage in conjunction or in place of physical therapy. Those therapists who have been properly trained can treat those individuals with confidence and a high probability of success. A therapist who is qualified in medical massage has access to additional clientele who often would not otherwise get massage.
